 Description of the Doctoral School

The Doctoral School of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences is an interdisciplinary university unit. It is an organised form of educating doctoral students in disciplines, preparing them for obtaining a doctoral degree. The purpose of the Doctoral School is to support the scientific and personal development of doctoral students in terms of acquiring knowledge and skills and competences as well as gaining independence in conducting didactics and research.

The education process at the Doctoral School includes an education pathway common to all doctoral students and specialised education pathways, corresponding to fields/disciplines.

The Doctoral School recruits in the following scientific fields and disciplines:

 Agricultural sciences in the disciplines:

· forestry

· agriculture and horticulture

· food and nutrition technology

· animal science and fisheries

 Veterinary science:

· veterinary science

 Natural sciences in the discipline:

· biological sciences

  Engineering and technology in the disciplines:

· civil engineering, geodesy and transport

· mechanical engineering

· environmental engineering, mining and energy

· information and communication technology

  Social sciences in the discipline:

· economics and finance

· management and quality science

· sociology

· pedagogics

Education

Curriculum

Education at the Doctoral School lasts four years. The curriculum at the Doctoral School shall include five modules:

· general social module - vocal emission, auto-presentation, communication, interpersonal relations, a modern foreign language;
· methodological module – research methodology, statistics, research methodology for the given field/discipline;
· didactic module - academic teaching methods, vocational internship (without conducting classes, co-participation), teaching internship (conducting classes for students);
· legal and dissemination module - scientific research findings commercialisation, preparing applications for research projects, science popularisation workshops;
· specialised module (in the given field/discipline) - doctoral seminars, tutorials with the supervisor, academic writing in English, elective courses.

Supervisors

Scientific supervision over the doctoral student shall be performed by a supervisor or supervisors. The consent of the selected future supervisor to admit the candidate under scientific supervision in the scope of the proposed concept of the doctoral dissertation should be submitted together with the recruitment documents.

Scholarship

During the four years of study, each doctoral student receives a scholarship of PLN 3.466,70 before the mid-term evaluation and PLN 5.340,90 after the mid-term evaluation.The allowance for disabled pepole PLN 1.040,70.
